Mediterranean Diet Book

Bryce Mursch reports “If you’re sick of cutting carbs and just dying for a big slice of bread, there’s something new. First it was the doctor-designed “South Beach ” diet making news. Now another Miami-based heart doctor has come up with a plan for those of you who have given up on low-carb eating. “The Miami Mediterranean Diet” is making quite a splash.

About 13 years ago, Judy Clarke got the wake-up call of a lifetime, “I had a heart attack in October of 1992 and then in August of ‘93, I had another heart attack in another artery.”

Her blood pressure was high and her eating habits needed a major overhaul. She got help from Doctor Michael Ozner. “The important thing of ‘The Miami Mediterranean Diet,’ which I developed,” explains Ozner, “is the fact the first important point is people don’t feel like they’re on a diet because the food is delicious.”

Judy eats foods like stuffed tomatoes with feta cheese and sole with spicy nutty pesto sauce. T he Miami Mediterranean diet features fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish, nuts and olive oil.

Michael Ozner, M.D., says, “They’re losing weight, not in a dramatic fashion, but steady weight loss, anywhere from a half a pound to a pound to a pound and a half a week.”

Clinical studies support this type of diet plan. “We know from one of the original studies, the seven country study, that if you follow a Mediterranean diet, you have a 90 percent less likelihood of having a heart attack than following a traditional western diet or American diet.”

Judy Clarke says, “It’s really more than just a diet, it’s a way of life, is how I feel.” Judy’s convinced this is the diet plan that’s saved her life.

Doctor Ozner stresses his Miami Mediterranean Diet, explained in his book by the same name, differs from the popular, low carb diets because this one provides long-term results and a broader range of food choices.
