Women Use Weight Training For Health & Beauty
Weight training has many benefits, including a beautiful toned body, increased energy and fat-burning capacity. Not only that, weight training will reduce the risk of osteoporosis. The Seattle Times have published a useful report on the latest trends of women going into weight training.
In response to many women’s worries of growing too big, they report:
“Experts counter all these complaints. They say you likely won’t get big unless that’s your goal — and even then you might not. Getting hurt is a legitimate concern, but proper training and form will diminish the risk, and well-developed muscles generally protect your body from injury. Having more lean muscle mass helps burn calories, so while the scale may not budge (it may actually climb) losing fat means losing inches. And time? If your workout is taking a long time, you probably aren’t being intense and efficient enough.”
The article continues that women should combine weight training with aerobic exercise, and give the example of a personal trainer who helps women to boost their weightloss and tone up with weights:
“The high-energy Cordova believes that adding resistance while in an aerobic state incorporates immediate fat burning with the long-term benefit of lean-muscle mass and strength. She started lifting weights when she was 14 and is still in tremendous shape in her 40s. None of her students has her stamina or strength, and several don’t have her form, but she frequently warns them to protect their backs and bend their knees.”
Useful words of advice. Weight training offers great benefits - I think it’s one of the most important things you can do when you want to lose weight - and keep it off. However, it’s quite easy to get injuries from having bad form. That’s why I recommend that you do body weight exercises.
